WHO WE ARE
The Heart of Peace project © is a summer institute offering an innovative program for parents and children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and developmental delay. The program is a professional grade, therapeutic program offering non-invasive treatment modalities to increase quality of life for young people and their families. The program runs August 2-7th at the Tucson Waldorf School in Tucson, Arizona. Support for the families continues for one year following the week at the school.
The Heart of Peace© is a 501(c) 3, registered non profit charity. It is an educational institute run by the Congressional District Project, a branch of the National Heritage Foundation. We seek donations for operational costs for the program and to specifically fund needy children from the local population who are in need of treatment.
We are a group of professional therapists and teachers who work with children with ASD and developmental delay. All the treatments we employ have been effective in releasing the grip of autism, spectrum disorders and developmental delay. We have each witnessed positive change for the young people we have worked using our particular modality.
These treatments are safe, gentle and work to fortify a sense of safety in children. They create inner strength and resiliency and fortify the central nervous system so that healing can take place. Healing opens the organism to receive learning, helps the individual adapt to their environment and allows the life force to become balanced and stable over time. These treatments support the inner being of a person in a wholesome and caring way so that these young people can step into their lives with grace and certainty.
We have come together to collaborate as a way of exponentially increasing the possibility of bringing relief to the young people and families affected with these challenges. We offer education in neurodevelopment exercises, wholesome nutrition that eliminates inflammation and provide psychotherapy and respite for parents and bring a deep sense of peace and compassion to the healing process with young people so everyone feels supported and nurtured in the process of healing.
We are devoted to the treatment of young people with autism and development delay. Our program provides highly effective therapies to gently release the patterns of ASD and developmental delay. We believe they accelerate internal growth and foster development at foundational levels. We have experienced change in young people with ASD and developmental delay using these methods. |
OVERVIEW
The Heart of Peace Institute© offers a five day program to families of young people with autism and developmental delay between the ages of 3 and 20+. It will introduce and teach 5 distinct modalities to maximize each person's physical, spiritual and emotional development. These modalities and treatments will be presented by qualified, experienced therapists and teaching consultants who work with young people.
The first Institute program will be held in Tucson, AZ, August 2, 2009, and housed at the Tucson Waldorf School. Families from out of town can stay at the Windmill Suites who have offered us a discount fee. Transportation is available to and from the school. Educational classes and therapies will be scheduled with play, snacks and rest sessions interspersed during the day.
Parents will be provided with books and handouts relating to the treatments and modalities. Participants will be served two meals a day on site. The menu will follow the nutritional guidelines presented during the week which come from the Body Ecology diet and the Gut and Psychology Syndrome diet. The project staff will provide families with follow up support during the course of the following next year. |
RATIONALE
Autism affects one in every 150 children worldwide. In certain states in the US, one in every 80 children has a diagnosis of autism. Developmental delay in children accounts for up to 65% of all classroom aged children. This epidemic of autism and developmental delay is being linked to many environmental factors that suggest a need for innovative treatments which include a holistic approach to medicine, nutritional guidance, sensory integration and neurodevelopmental healing.
ASD and DD, given the right conditions for healing, can be transformed so families and schools can see positive changes occurring. Given optimal diet, homeopathic treatment, neurodevelopmental therapy, gentle bodywork, sensory integration, spatial dynamics and art and music, young people with ASD and DD can improve in function, sometimes dramatically.
This program offers viable solutions through multi-disciplinary, innovative treatments that allow healing to take place. These therapies, when given together, create a synergistic crucible that encourages the healthy development of young people with ASD and developmental challenges.
